Putatan, Muntinlupa Police Force – April 25, 2010

On April 25, 2010, Sunday, almost a hundred volunteers gathered together at the Municipal Hall of Muntinlupa to educate and medicate almost 200 men and women of Muntinlupa's Police Force & their families, as well as Traffic Police Officers and other Municipal Workers. The medical mission started at 8am and ended at around 12 noon. As members of the police force were ushered to the different stations, they had their blood pressure checked, their medical complaints heard, and had received consultation and medication.

After visiting the different stations, head Lifeline doctor Erlyn Chua, spoke on the dangers of hypertension and on how to prevent this 'silent killer' from claiming more lives than it already has. It seems that the number one problem for Muntinlupa's police force is hypertension--it is imperative that they be educated on this concern. Dr. Chua debunked myths concerning hypertension and in five practical steps, explained how simple changes in habits can be incorporated into their lifestyle so that they can live healthier and longer lives.

Prevention is equally as important as fighting a disease--as it has been said in previous articles, a man who is sick won't be able to competently provide for his family and serve his community. Individuals should never be made to feel like they're helpless, only empowered. It was humbling to see these hardworking, uniformed individuals so apparently grateful, conversing with the volunteers and sharing their lives. We as citizens need to know that those serving our government can do their jobs effectively; in turn, these individuals also need to know that there are citizens who care enough to help them.

The Truth About Christmas

The True Meaning Of Christmas

by Brian K. Walters
In todays' day and time,

it's easy to lose sight,

of the true meaning of Christmas

and one special night.

When we go shopping,

We say "How much will it cost?"

Then the true meaning of Christmas,

Somehow becomes lost.

Amidst the tinsel, glitter

And ribbons of gold,

We forget about the child,

born on a night so cold.

The children look for Santa

In his big, red sleigh
Never thinking of the child

Whose bed was made of hay.

In reality,

When we look into the night sky,

We don't see a sleigh

But a star, burning bright and high.

A faithful reminder,

Of that night so long ago,

And of the child we call Jesus,

Whose love, the world would know.

Geng! Get Over Yourself!

I am only thankful to God for the life he has given me. Life that is full of His love, mercies and grace. I got to know Jesus in 2004 but I only came to know Him "personally" in 2007. He stood up for me, on that cross, when nobody else would...nobody else could. He gave up His life for me, unworthy of His love, yet embraced me wholly, as I am. As a personal debt, I ought to walk like Him. How? Just by THANKING Him. Not forgetting what He has done for me to be this FREE. Knowing life is NOT about me, or you. It's all about HIM! So today, I am telling myself - "Geng! Get over yourself! Look up! He is ALL you need!"

Lifeline Foundation's Adoption Advocacy

There are thousands of Filipino babies in the Philippines who deserve a family and a home. And we are certain that there are thousands of  deserving adoptive families in the Philippines and around the world who are waiting to be matched with these babies.

Lifeline Foundation Support Team Inc is advocating adoption. The team has created a web portal unifying all local information on adoption. This aims to provide those families with the necessary information on adoption and to bridge the gap between agencies focused on adoption in the Philippines.

Inevitable Change in Philippine Politics

Erap for President in 2010! I believe that this was expected. I sure hope that Filipinos are far more smarter now than before. Not just him, but a lot of other traditional and political dynasties we have to contend with at present.  While it seems almost impossible for Philippine politics to undergo a period of change, I am not losing hope and believe that we still can do it! It will not be easy of course but things will change! Nothing is ever permanent in this world as there is already an appointed time and season for everything - a beginning and an end. As long as we keep our hearts and eyes and ears open. There is still hope for this nation!

Joseph Ejercito Estrada is the 13th President of the Philippines. He was impeached, a convicted plunderer and later on pardoned by the current President.

Fashion From Manila Trash to London!

There is ALWAYS a way! If we will just stop! And think about how we can create our future by having the right mindset and diligence and make an impact in the world we live in. Success is sweeter if it was borne out of unselfish vision and mission.

Jane Walker, a former publishing executive from Southampton gave up her lavish lifestyle back in 1996 to set up the Philippine Christian Foundation in Manila after seeing the plight of the poor here. Creating livelihood projects for the people of Payatas through turning trash into fashion accessories is the thrust of her foundation. This has helped enriched the lives of this people and is giving them a better tomorrow. Their products have been becoming popular in London...

Isaiah 35

What a mighty God we have! The wonderful works of His Hand, His Glory shall be seen in the land of the living! Thank You, Lord! NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH YOU, FATHER!

1THE WILDERNESS and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the rose and the autumn crocus.

2It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the excellency of [Mount] Carmel and [the plain] of Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty and splendor and excellency of our God.

3Strengthen the weak hands and make firm the feeble and tottering knees.

4Say to those who are of a fearful and hasty heart, Be strong, fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance; with the recompense of God He will come and save you.

5Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

6Then shall the lame man leap like a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.

7And the burning sand and the mirage shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the haunt of jackals, where they lay resting, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

8And a highway shall be there, and a way; and it shall be called the Holy Way. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for the redeemed; the wayfaring men, yes, the simple ones and fools, shall not err in it and lose their way.

9No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk on it.

10And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing, and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Recycle, Reuse!

Have you heard of the phrase “There is gold in the trash?” or “There is money in trash?” This is so true. We found out recently from a “recycle guy” that there is really money in the trash. But for him, it is just an icing on the cake. He wanted to help the environment, and recycling is the best way he knows how. He only started collecting and buying trashes and garbage in a few plastic bags from a few establishments then sell them. It grew big and now he has his own dump track to collect more garbage from more companies and establishments. His dump track brings the trash collected to his own recycling plant. There are different categories by which you can segregate your trash.

  1. White Paper
  2. Waste – this includes telephone directories, brown paper
  3. Tin cans
  4. Soda cans
  5. Plastic bottles
  6. Plastic Shampoo containers
  7. Sibak – this includes plastic lid and ring
  8. Cartons
Remember, the prices increase the cleaner they are.  And take note that they buy in kilos so the more, the heavier, right? LOL! Yes, you need to work on it from segregating to cleaning to packing and so on.  This is also going to change your lifestyle – for the better. This way, you can have extra income while you help save our environment. Only benefits for you and your love ones. I together with our community are having a “recycle drive” weekly. A little trash from an individual and a little from another adds up, so this is not impossible to do.  I will never look at trash the same way again!
